Hadih!

My name is Brett Stubbs, I am an ambitious teacher candidate, coach, and professional armwrestler!

I was born in a beautiful coastal city Bellingham, in the United State (U.S.) of Washington and raised in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada (CA.) With dual citizenship, I went to Duchess Park Secondary School, where my love for sports and leadership began to take shape.

I played football, rugby, and wrestled for 5 years where I got scouted to play semi-professional football. Due to injuries in my first year after graduating, I was forced to quit, which lead me to pursue a diploma in Kinesiology at the College of New Caledonia. During my time there, I earned certifications as a CSEP personal trainer and a CanFitPro group fitness trainer, which allowed me to blend my passion for fitness with a desire to help others achieve their goals. While studying, I worked full-time in car sales, balancing my professional and academic commitments through remote learning, a real challenge that taught me time management and financial responsibility.

As I progressed through my studies, I began coaching football and wrestling, where I discovered my passion for mentoring and teaching. This experience sparked a desire to pursue a career in education, and I realized that the impact I could make as a teacher extended beyond the field. My coaching roles allowed me the opportunity to practice teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. I was fortunate to secure a Limited Duration contract at Alternate Community Programs, where I deepened my understanding of trauma-informed pedagogy and built meaningful, life-long connections with colleagues.

In addition to my journey in education, I am also a professional arm wrestler. I have proudly earned a 2nd place provincial medal in British Columbia and am driven to compete at the national and international level. Arm wrestling has taught me the importance of dedication, discipline, and setting long-term goals, qualities I’d like to bring into my teaching philosophy!

Today, I am working toward becoming a teacher, integrating my experiences from sports, fitness, coaching, and arm wrestling into a holistic approach to education. I believe in nurturing students’ growth both academically and personally, drawing on the lessons of resilience, adaptability, and perseverance that have shaped my own journey.
